Woman from Controversial Saraland Waffle House Case is Suing Waffle House

You probably remember the big controversy. Chikesia Clemons was wrestled to the floor of the restaurant by Saraland police officers after arguing with Waffle House staff at about 2:30 a.m. on April 22, 2018. The video of the altercation went viral, and caused a few protests and many arguments.

Earlier this year, Chikesia Clemons was found not guilty of disorderly conduct but guilty of resisting arrest in an appeal trial. She was sentenced to six months in jail, one year of probation and $500 in court costs. The six months in jail were suspended. But the arrest is now part of a new civil rights lawsuit.

Her attorney told reporters he is suing Waffle House, "based on a pattern and practice of racism and discrimination against African Americans that led to Chikesia Clemons, an unarmed, Black woman, assaulted, and battered and body slammed and choked and disrobed at the Waffle House restaurant in Saraland, Alabama."
