MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — We are just days away from a major celebration in downtown Mobile, a “Tardy Gras” parade is being held to celebrate the commissioning of the USS Mobile on Friday.

“It’s a historical event for the US Navy and Austal and for the City of Mobile,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said.
Stimpson said it’s a rare honor for a ship to be built, christened and commissioned in the city it’s named after.
