LifeSouth in emergency need for all blood types
With the blood supply reaching emergency levels, LifeSouth is seeking blood donations of all blood types.
The storms have already impacted local donations in the area, while increased usage at hospitals and the slowdown in donations that often comes with summer’s arrival, combined to trigger the emergency. LifeSouth declares an emergency when the reserve blood supply that is used to restock hospitals drops to less than a two-day level. Types O-negative and O-positive, and platelet donations are especially needed.
Donors must be 17 years or older, or 16 with parental permission, and weight at least 110 pounds. Donors must also be in good health, and a photo ID is required.
There are several upcoming blood drives in the Mobile and Baldwin Country areas.
