New Mexico State Star Has Local Roots

This season is my 19th as a color commentator on what is now the UTV 44 High School Football Game of the Week. It is seen every Friday night through October starting at 7PM on UTV 44, of course. Through those many seasons and games I have had the pleasure of witnessing too many outstanding players to mention. Sometimes there are very good players that get lost on sub average teams. That was probably the case with Ron La Force.

Because the program has struggled over the last decade, we have not done many Alma Bryant games. The Hurricanes were among the state's best football programs after the school was created by the merger of Alba and Grand bay high schools in the late 1990s, but harder times have been the norm in the bayou more recently. Still, it is not unusual for poor teams to field some good players. That, no doubt, is the case of Ron La Force.

After his playing days at Bryant, La Force traveled out west to play Junior College football before being recruited to play at New mexico State. It looks like the Aggies are glad they found him. He had a very good year starting at safety in 2017 and will be among new mexico State's best players when they open their season tonight on the Big 10 network at Minnesota. The game airs at 6.

Below you can enjoy Ron's media day interview earlier this month. Good luck, Ron. We'll be watching!
