DESMOND HOWARD was an excellent guest at the C Spire 1st & 10 Club’s opening meeting for 2018. I got the chance to meet with him behind the scenes before the dinner began and he was great. While the panelist for ESPN’s College Game day is obviously very sharp, he is still down to earth and friendly. That says a lot for a guy whose resume likes like his. Here is how I introduced him Monday night:
Our guest is the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner and Super Bowl 4I MVP and joined ESPN in 2005 as a college football analyst for College GameDay.
As a wide receiver at Michigan, he was the first receiver in Big Ten history to lead the conference in scoring as he set or tied five NCAA records and 12 single-season Michigan records.
He spent 11 seasons in the NFL after being selected as the fourth overall pick by the Washington Redskins in the 1992 draft.
His 870 punt return yards in a single season remain a NFL record. In 1996, he led the NFL in punt returns, punt return average and punt returns for touchdowns.
A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame, the University of Michigan Hall Of Honor, the State of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame.
Heisman Trophy winner, Super Bowl MVP…and our first C Spire 1st & 10 club guest speaker for 2018:
Desmond Howard
Feel free to enjoy the famous punt return vs Ohio State that Howard punctuated with his now famous "Heisman Pose."
