Before Thomas Rhett’s family can double, he and wife Lauren Akins are putting in the work. The country star opens up in a new interview about the stress that comes from adopting a child from Africa.
“The process of adopting someone from a different country is really, really strenuous, and you find out a lot about yourself,” Thomas says. “When you’re over there and you and your wife are staying in a hotel room for a month and a half and you wake up, and you think you’re going to get some news and you don’t get it, or you don’t think you’re going to get some news and you do get it. That’s really the best way I can describe the adoption process: an emotional roller coaster.” The good news is TR and Lauren are nearing the end of the process.
“I understand how tough they make it for you to see how bad you really want it, but it is very hard. But we’re finally over that hump and cannot wait to get our child home,” he adds. Lauren is also pregnant with the couple’s first biological child. The little one, a baby girl, is expected to arrive in August.
