Everyone looks up to King, including one unlikely pop star. Ed Sheeran tells Rolling Stone he’s inspired by George Strait and hopes to one day have a similar touring regime.
“I want to do stadiums everywhere,” he says of his dream tour. “Like George Strait’s level—he tours every four years, does a couple of stadiums and then [goes away] again.”King George toured heavily for three decades and then retired from the road in 2014. He still performs concerts today—just on his schedule, in one city. He’s currently contracted with T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and performs a select number of shows per year.George returns to Vegas for two shows in April, while Ed kicks off his Divide Tour June 29 in Kansas City, Missouri.
