Mardi Gras Parade and USS Mobile Commission Celebration this Friday

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — We are just days away from a major celebration in downtown Mobile, a “Tardy Gras” parade is being held to celebrate the commissioning of the USS Mobile on Friday.

The USS Mobile arrived in the port and the celebrations are coming together for what organizers say will be a day to remember.

“It’s a historical event for the US Navy and Austal and for the City of Mobile,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said.

Stimpson said it’s a rare honor for a ship to be built, christened and commissioned in the city it’s named after.
