The Atlantic Ocean is active on this peak day of hurricane season! We continue to track Hurricane Florence in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Florence is forecast to strengthen into a major hurricane (again) over the next 24 hours. The category 3 or 4 storm is expected to make landfall in either North or South Carolina later in the week, possibly on Thursday.
Hurricane Helene is predicted to mature into a category two storm on Monday. Helene is expected to remain over the open water of the Atlantic Ocean through the end of the week.
Isaac is now a hurricane and continues to strengthen as it moves west toward the Windward Islands. The category one storm may achieve category two status on Tuesday before a gradual weakening trend takes place late in the week as Isaac cruises through the Caribbean.
Finally, a cluster of showers and storms in the NW Caribbean is being monitored for future development. The National Hurricane Center gives it a 30% chance of organization into a tropical cyclone.
