MoonPie Over Mobile With Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

MoonPie Over Mobile will Boogie into 2022 with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue!

MOBILE, AL - Ring in this highly-anticipated new year in downtown Mobile with a giant electronic MoonPie dropping as New Orleans legend, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue bring the funk! This free event began in 2008 and has grown to more than 50,000 revelers filling the streets with a festive vibe all too familiar in Mobile. This year’s headliner, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave, are taking this celebration to the next level. Part Jimi Hendrix, part James Brown and all New Orleans, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews is the bandleader and frontman of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, a hardedged funk band that employs brass-band beats, rock dynamics and improvisation in a jazz tradition. A 2011 Grammy Award nominee, Shorty’s virtuosity and high energy live shows have drawn unanimous raves worldwide with Rolling Stone calling him a “must-see act.”

Early evening festivities include a resolution wall, the cutting of the world’s largest, edible MoonPie, baked by Chattanooga Bakery, and a second line parade led by the Port City Secondliners and the Jukebox Brass Band. The public is invited to join the parade as it travels down Royal Street to the main stage.

An opening act, to be announced soon, will get the crowd grooving before Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue hit the stage to usher in the new year like never before! Moments before midnight the street party will start to peak with the ceremonial dropping of the world’s largest, electronic MoonPie, followed by a laser light show and epic display of fireworks when the clock strikes 2022. The 12-foot-tall MoonPie descending from the 34-story RSA Trustmark skyrise welcomes in the new year and the beginning of Mobile’s Mardi Gras season.

It promises to be the best New Year’s Eve celebration in the South and the perfect time to experience the magic of Mobile. Take advantage of special hotel packages as we invite all attendees to come stay and play!
