Jack West and I go back a few years. I first laid eyes on him at a QB Country practice session at Springhill College when Jack was just entering his sophomore season at Saraland High. He would be the Spartan's starting quarterback that year and would soon find out that the position was not an easy one for a player that young. Saraland would compete against talented teams like Blount, Daphne and Spanish Fort. All those defenses were eager to welcome Jack to big time Alabama high school football. Jack had his ups and Jack had his downs. But through it all, he persevered to become one of the state of Alabama's most celebrated and recruited players.
Early in the recruiting process, Jack chose Stanford University as the college of his choice. Jack is a great student and has a number of other intangibles that will serve him well as his life goes on. Knowing what I do about Stanford, it seemed to be a perfect fit. He started this season as a redshirt freshman, and third on the depth chart at quarterback, but that was before the two players ahead of him were injured. Ready or not, Jack West get's his first ever start on tonight night on ESPN. The game is against UCLA and kicks off at 8 our time. Good luck to Jack and the Stanford Cardinal. We will be pulling for you.
