HAPPY HOUR (The GoodNews):
Austin Gontarski, an 8th grade student at St. Patrick Catholic School in Robertsdale has collected thousands of dollars to provide food for the Catholic Social Services (CSS) of Baldwin County Backpack Program. The backpacks are given to area schools to distribute to boys and girls in struggling families who might not have enough food to get them through the weekend.
In the three years Austin has been working on the project, he has collected more than $18,000 in cash and food donations. But now, he and his parents have opened an official Foundation. Scroll down to see the pics on the Facebook post. Here is a little of what his mom Jennifer wrote on her Facebook page:
"...This is Austin’s 3rd year of collecting food and money for the local Baldwin County students who go home hungry over the weekends. In 2017 he found out that small children didn’t have anything to eat at home and he said “mom, that hurts my heart” 😞 “if that was me I would want someone to help me”. 😢
He has set a goal of raising $15,000 and 30,000 + meals for this year’s school year by November 1st. He will certainly need help meeting his goal. For his 13th birthday this year he asked for a Foundation to be created for him. We created “Developing Futures Foundation” which is a 501C3 and has been approved for a non-profit organization. (Greg and I paid for all hard cost. All money raised will go directly to purchasing food.) The name was created to “help feed the hungry children so that they can focus on school work and for them to help create their own futures”. There are approximately 400 children or more EACH weekend that need food.
We would love if you could help him in any way possible, whether a cash donation or purchasing food items (picture attached of items that are placed in their book bags for the weekend). I will be glad to meet you anywhere to pick up. If you choose to write a check please make it payable to Developing Futures Foundation. I will PM you our mailing address. After November 1st we will deliver all food items to Catholic Social Services in Robertsdale. We will keep purchasing items throughout the year when they run out so that they don’t have to store so much food at one time.:
WAY TO GO AUSTIN!
