For Rachael and Russell McCarthy, Mardi Gras is a tradition that runs in the family. That's why the young parents-to-be decided to have their first child's gender reveal during the Mobile Mystics parade.
The McCarthy's wanted share the moment with not only family, but the Mystic members who have become family to the couple.
Rachael's father is one of the charter members for the organization. She says she couldn't think of a better way to share the moment with those she loved.
"I grew up with this organization," McCarthy said. "All of the men are like uncles to me. They all take care of me, so I wanted them to be in this special moment with us."
The couple came out in front of the barricade as her father's float came down Royal Street.
The Mystics replaced their throws with confetti poppers and...
IT'S A GIRL! Pink rained down from the float as the couple, family members and complete strangers celebrated and burst into tears.
Congrats to the happy parents-to-be!
