As it does in every NFL city, the annual NFL Draft attracts a lot of attention. So you know they were watching in big numbers in a city like Pittsburgh, where the Steelers are kings. The Steeler fans, and everyone watching Thursday night's first round, got quite an emotional and inspiring bonus as Ryan Shazier, with help from his fiance, walked across the stage at AT&T Stadium in Texas to announce the Steelers' first selection.
Why was this such a big deal? Shazier, who has played most of five full seasons in Pittsburgh, had his season cut short in December of 2017 with a serious injury that left him nearly motionless and carted off the field. The injury resulted in spinal surgery with no clearly defined prognosis for his recovery.
That night Ryan tweeted, "I’m truly blessed and humbled from all the prayers, love, and support that I have received . This is what keeps me going. Just continue to #Shalieve"
